Working together to tackle ice in sporting clubs

AFL Gippsland is bringing football and netball clubs together to tackle the issue of ice in the local community.

With the support of a Victorian Government Community Ice Action Grant, AFL Gippsland has partnered with Victoria Police, GippSport and Australian Community Support Organisation to engage 17 local clubs in the Gippsland Footy’s Fight Against Ice program.

The aim is to develop awareness of the dangers associated with ice use and establish practical ways to address the issue in sporting clubs and the community. A key outcome of the initiative is the development of an Illicit Drugs Club Policy to support ongoing action to tackle the issue locally.

Check out their story here.

AFL Gippsland was one of thirteen community groups to receive a Community Ice Action Grant in 2015, as part of the Victorian Government’s Ice Action Plan to stop ice from ruining lives. Twelve community groups will receive a Community Ice Action Grant including the Shepparton Black Eagles Basketball Club, which will use the funding to mentor young Aboriginal people in the area.
