HEALing Matters at Resi ROCKS

This year’s Resi ROCKS event provided an opportunity for residential care workers from across Victoria to preview the new HEALing Matters initiative. This innovative online professional development program for residential care workers aims to support young people in residential care to eat healthy, stay active and establish the healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

Resi ROCKS is an annual event supported by the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare. The event brings together residential care workers from across the state to learn, share and celebrate achievements. This year’s event, with its theme of “Making a difference: Innovative ways to improve outcomes for young people” provided the perfect occasion to share the new HEALing Matters website, online learning modules and easy to use resources with residential care staff.

HEALing Matters takes a trauma informed approach to support residential workers and carers to make the link between healthy lifestyle behaviours and improvements in physical, cognitive, social and emotional outcomes for young people in their care. Over 100 residential workers registered their interest at Resi ROCKS, demonstrating their passion for supporting the best possible outcomes for the young people in their care.

Funded by the Victorian Government, HEALing Matters was developed by health and psychology researchers at the Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation.

Watch this video to hear from residential workers about the program.
