Honesty Snacks demonstrates health and business leadership

Honesty Snacks has demonstrated that quick and tasty snack foods can meet the Victorian Government’s Healthy Choices guidelines.

With support from the Healthy Eating Advisory Service (HEAS), the snack boxes that Honesty Snacks supplies to the Department of Health and Human Services now meet the Healthy Eating Policy and Catering Guide for Workplaces.

As they do for others in their Mentorship Program, HEAS supported Honesty Snacks by helping them apply the Healthy Choices guidelines in the context of their company’s specific food business activities, and providing their online assessment tool, FoodChecker. Honesty Snacks used FoodChecker to assess their current and potential future products against the Healthy Choices guidelines.

Previously the snack boxes at the Department of Health and Human Services had 89% RED items and only 1% GREEN items. Armed with an understanding of the Healthy Choices guidelines and the FoodChecker tool, Honesty Snacks was able to quickly change the percentage of GREEN, AMBER and RED products to 77% AMBER and 13% GREEN. A fantastic improvement!

Paul Grant, the CEO of Honesty Snacks says, “this move to a healthier snack box has been on the radar for some time as the demand for healthier choices is rising. HEAS was able to help educate us on the Healthy Choices guidelines and using their program FoodChecker, we had a list of GREEN and AMBER products to choose from. This has resulted in a quick and seamless change towards meeting the Healthy Choices guidelines, something Honesty Snacks is very proud of”.

HEAS and Honesty Snacks will continue to work together as the snack box company’s end goal is to have at least 50% GREEN products with no RED products. Start a conversation about how your workplace can meet the Healthy Choices guidelines and support healthier eating at work.
