All Victorians need to have the opportunity to experience their best mental health and achieve their full potential. To support mental health and wellbeing, Victoria is undertaking a range of actions including:
- implementing Victoria’s 10 year mental health plan
- implementing a whole-of-government approach to reducing suicide and suicidal behaviour through the Victorian Suicide Framework 2016-25
- strengthening preventive health initiatives for people living with severe mental illness to improve their health and wellbeing and prevent chronic illness
- developing and expanding strategies to build resilience and address discrimination for at-risk, and disadvantaged populations
- implementing the Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Plan to support resilience and promote protective factors and address risk factors for poor mental health.
Through these actions and more we are aiming to:
- decrease suicide
- increase family functioning
- increase resilience
- increase community and cultural participation
- increase social cohesion
- decrease psychological distress.
