Our vision at Western Leisure Services (WLS) is to build healthier lives through recreation and aquatics.
For us, this means encouraging our community to be more physically active and have a healthier diet to help prevent disease, promote better health, wellbeing and productivity and support children’s growth and development.
With help from a Wyndham City Council dietitian and the Healthy Eating Advisory Service, we made healthy changes to the food and drinks in the cafes and vending machines at AquaPulse and Eagle Stadium to meet the Healthy Choices guidelines. Results were impressive – sales of unhealthy choices dropped, and healthier food and drink sales rose, and our customers were happy with the change. But most impressively there was no change in overall café profit and loss, showing us that a healthy café is financially viable.
WLS Services Group Manager, Chetan Patel adds:
“It is so important for WLS to align our food service with the overall health messages, membership offers and programs that AquaPulse and Eagle Stadium offer. We are extremely proud of the work we have done to achieve compliance with the Victorian Government’s Healthy Choices Guidelines. We are committed to communicating consistent messages about healthy eating and healthy lifestyles to the Wyndham community, while also reflecting community expectations in our café menu offerings.”
WLS is proud to be leading the way as an early adopter of the Victorian government’s Healthy Choices policy guidelines. In establishing a multi-faceted health-promotion approach incorporating both physical activity and healthy eating, we hope to be a catalyst to drive change by encouraging community demand for healthier food and drink choices.
