Narre Warren South P-12 College is one of 70 schools to receive funding through round two of the School Shade Grants Program.
Childhood and adolescence are critical periods during which exposure to ultraviolet violet radiation is more likely to contribute to skin cancer later in life.
Schools play a vital role in encouraging sun smart behaviours from an early age. That’s why the School Shade Grants Program is supporting schools to review, improve and strengthen sun protection policies.
The program has so far provided $2.8 million in funding to schools for shade development – including new shade, repairing existing shade or creating natural shade by planting trees.
Narre Warren South P-12 College is delighted with the new shade sails as a result of the program, stating “It has had a huge effect on playground numbers”.
The third round of both the Community and School Shade Grants will open later this year. For further information please visit skin cancer prevention.
