Wyndham’s first ever senior’s exercise park will provide Wyndham’s older residents a new way to be physically active outdoors and socially engaged.
The new seniors' exercise park is being installed in partnership with the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) and funded by Gandel Philanthropy. It will be located at the Central Park Community Centre in Lonsdale Circuit, Hoppers Crossing.
Over 1-2 years, research participants will access the exercise park in a group and receive instruction from an exercise physiologist from NARI. Participants will receive an initial assessment and their progress will be monitored by NARI.
Findings from a past study have shown that participants improved muscle strength, balance, and physical function. You can find out more about the study here.
You can see a video of the research project here.
The park will also be available for public use outside of programmed hours, making it an intergenerational space and place for the whole community.
For updates on the Central Park redevelopment and the establishment of the exercise park please register your interest visit the Wyndham City Council website.
The Seniors’ Exercise Park is expected to open mid year.
